In 1924, Electrolux invented the home vacuum cleaner. This marvel was just one of hundreds of convenience items that the industrial revolution spawned. Washing machines, blenders and hundreds of home appliances created savings of time and money for households around the world.

Many new technologies require a demonstration. These new fangled gadgets are often so revolutionary that a brochure isn’t sufficient to explain the benefits to the customer. Like many technologies, once the product becomes ubiquitous, a demonstration no longer becomes necessary. We all know what they do and what features we want. The discovery becomes a commodity and competition becomes fierce.

That is, after all, what vacuum cleaners do; they remove the dust and dirt from our floors and provide a cleaner environment for our homes.

As any marketing student knows, word of mouth advertising is the least expensive and most effective method of distribution. In home demonstrations became as rare as an honest politician as more and more women returned to the workforce. It is difficult to do in home demonstrations when nobody is home! By keeping a direct sales force model as a core component of their distribution, they not only kept a toehold on the marketplace, but allowed their customers to be their sales force.

Network Marketing Online

With the proliferation of email, websites and video’s online, “old school” network marketers are facing a fundamental challenge. Should you continue with your offline marketing and recruiting or place more resources to the online world?

The smug answer is to do both, but there are more questions to ask in order for you to arrive at the right answer.

Since every opportunity and person is unique, no single answer is going to fit every scenario. Ask yourself the following questions and you’ll create a balance that is uniquely suited not just to you and your business, but your clients and downline as well.

1.  Is your product a tangible good that is easy to demonstrate?

2.  Are you naturally a people person? Do you enjoy making new friends?

3.  Is this your first MLM opportunity? Do you have an existing downline?

4.  Does your opportunity embrace the internet? Do they have online tutorials?

5.  Can you clients and downline easily order and ship online?

6.  Does your opportunity have recruiting tools, videos and documents online?

7.  Do you enjoy teaching, motivating and speaking to a live audience?

From a recruiting standpoint, it is much easier recruiting and developing a team locally than it is all over the world. Even with the best online recruiting and retention tools, physically connecting with someone and looking them in hte eye will give you instant rapport, feedback and a bonding that isn’t available in the online world.

For retention and building strong bonds, the internet is a poor servant. Relationships are truly built when we interact as human beings. Chatting, texting and social networking is all the rage but no technology can replace a firm handshake and looking someone in the eye. Leadership can start online, but reinforcement and true relationships are always solidified face to face.

From a marketing and recruiting standpoint, especially if the company has embraced the ease and agility of the online world, the internet has tremendous benefits for any MLM independent distributor.

Even if you have a tangible product that has real punch when being demonstrated, using an online tool to show colors, features, benefits and styles can allow the distributor to “travel light” and not carry a huge supply of product in the trunk of his car.

If you are a gregarious, people-person, you already have an advantage when it comes to recruiting, training and motivating your downline. A major drawback to your personality is that you believe and love everyone! Look back on your efforts and success…I am sure that over 80% of the people you invested your precious time with over the years have produces less than 20% of the results for your organization (This is called Pareto’s Principle and the 80/20 rule applies just as easily to teaching, sales organizations and sports teams. 20% of the people are normally responsible for 80% of the results.)

The proper application of technology can help you filter out the customers and prospects that have a tendency to fall into the 80% pile. You will never have 100% success rate with your recruiting or sponsoring, of course. But with a proper mix of online filtering and offline reinforcement, you should be able to get a bigger bang for your buck when finding, sponsoring and training your team.

Nikken Scam Review with the Doc!

Where do you draw the line between science and science fiction?

How do you discern if that NEW breakthrough is valid?

Why is it that the weird and bizarre technological advances always happen abroad?

Sometimes when I read about an exotic, life-giving plant or a holistic therapy that grows hair, I am reminded that all of the wacky National Enquirer stories take place in countries other than the United States.

So, when I was asked to review Nikken, a company made famous for using magnets to treat pain, I rolled my eyes and prepared to write a witty and scathing article on yet another scam that preyed on the hopes of the misfortunate.

Like any good journalist, I would do my research and find scores of complaints about the product not working, the science being shoddy and the company surrounded in a cloud of doubt. I figured it would take me about 3 hours to compile enough negative information to fill a textbook with the data on how this entire premise was bad science and deceptive business.

After 15 minutes, I changed my mind.

Most scientific studies do require double blind testing to insure purity and confidence that the hypothesis is true and that the placebo effect (where the thought of a cure is the cure) isn’t responsible for the results. After watching a video from Dr. Weintraub and reading his research on magnetic therapy for pain patients, my skepticism waned.

Dr. Michael Weintraub is a neurologist who specializes in pain management. Like me, curiosity got the best of him when he started to see anecdotal evidence supporting the totally wacky idea, that magnets could have an effect on human tissue.

Weintraub conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled medical study to determine how magnets work in reducing Symptomatic Diabetic Neuropathy pain with their insoles.  If you are interested in reviewing the report, you can find it in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Magazine, Vol.84 in May 2003.

Nikken may have started off with their research and application of magnetic therapy for people. However, their company philosophy has never been about magnets or even pain management. Their mission has always been wellness. In fact, their mission statement has been trademarked:

Like any company that valued its distributors, you can shop online all you want, but before they process your order, you’ll be assigned a distributor to link a live human with the product you ordered. Here’s the message I got after I place my order:

Of course, one massively popular market segment of the MLM industry is nutritional and health supplements. Nothing is stronger than the combination of a repeat client with a product that makes us healthier. The aging population, a growing awareness of health and a strong desire to look and feel better will lock in any reputable nutritional company as a solid opportunity.

Nature’s Sunshine has that and more.

I always love reading and reporting how a company is born. From the interesting personal stories of the leadership to the realization that distributing through a distributor network can create hyper growth, the beginnings of a company can be a compass for the future. So when Gene Hughes, a Utah school teacher, began experiencing a nagging stomach condition in the 70s, he took the advice of a neighbor who suggested cayenne pepper for his discomfort. Beauticontrol Review

I don’t mean to be picky and to be fair; it is very costly to change a company name. With printing, image and the value of branding, a name change for a company can be expensive or even deadly.

However, I am going to strongly recommend that Beauticontrol www.beauticontrol.com change their name. I don’t suggest this because of any negative publicity (Changing names doesn’t work well here. See “New coke” as an example) or because the company needs a new start. The main reason the name doesn’t work is because the word “control” is the antithesis of beauty.

When someone says the word, “control” what image pops in your head? Do you think of an overbearing parent, a strong boss, a measured response or the secret government agency that Maxwell Smart works for?

In any case, the word control places firm, strict and structured connotations in our heads. In my opinion, the word beauty signifies warmth, curves, peace and awe-inspired moments. These two words are in direct conflict with one another…I’m not sure that it matters that much, however, because the business model is simplistically brilliant.

Here’s why.

Beauticontrol Scam?

If there is ever a market that is overcrowded it would be health and beauty. There are hundreds of thousands of health and beauty companies. From the Fortune 500 to mega-brands like Avon, any company that goes head to head with these firms is either very dumb or very clever.

In Beauticontrol’s case, they are very clever.

The sneaky secret is that Beauticontrol is NOT simply a midsize MLM opportunity. With a respectful 145,000 distributors they have earned the right to some amount of market share. They are not in the top 50 with regards to size or volume, and their brand isn’t as well known as their direct competition. So, how do they not only survive, but actually THRIVE in an industry as competitive as beauty in a distribution system like network marketing?

Their little “secret” is that Beauticontrol is owned by Tupperware. Tupperware, of course IS one of the top 50 MLM companies and DOES have decades of experience in a marketplace even MORE competitive than beauty…plastic containers! (See my previous review on Tupperware)

A proven leader in marketing, sales and business development, Albert Bosch joined Beauticontrol in January. History
In 1994, food scientist John Wadsworth embarked on a journey in search of a little known fruit called “noni.” John partnered up with Steven Story and began to research the noni fruit, its origins and qualities.
